2023 marks the momentous 80th anniversary of KING Records, making it a year of reflection and reverence for eight decades of musical innovation. The unwavering mission of the KING RECORDS Legacy Foundation, especially their aspiration to rejuvenate the iconic Evanston studio, underscores their commitment to preserving Cincinnati’s cherished musical roots.
As we transition into the design narrative of the parade float, we spotlight a whirlwind 9-day journey. This mission, from preliminary sketches to the grand procession down Vine Street, encapsulates ambition, artistry, and the essence of Cincinnati’s twin legacies.

THE LEGACY OF KING RECORDS
Centrally located in Cincinnati, KING Records redefined the music industry’s landscape. Not only did it blur genre boundaries, but it also led the charge in advancing musical innovation. Beyond its contributions to track production, KING Records fostered a haven where ambition, diversity, and innovation flourished, making it a cornerstone in Cincinnati’s cultural and musical tapestry.
KING RECORDS LEGACY FOUNDATION
The KING RECORDS Legacy Foundation stands as the guardian of this rich history. Stemming from a synergy of artists, descendants, and business magnates, the Foundation champions the restoration of the original King Records Studio in Evanston. Their ambition is to morph the studio into a bustling epicenter of musical heritage, where the past’s echoes guide and inspire future musical trailblazers.
2023 FLOAT DESIGN
The float serves as a visual ode to KING Records’ storied legacy. At its heart lies the iconic King Logo Mark, embodying the label’s indomitable spirit. A classic palette of blue and white—a nod to KING Records’ original branding—is brought to life using traditional parade materials such as floral sheeting and fringe. A stage set, replete with lighting trees, pays homage to the label’s concert heritage. Elevated signage, reminiscent of vintage KING promotions, ensures that the legacy of KING looms large throughout the parade’s progression.
