INTD4001 SITUATED LEARNING
/ UNIVERSITY OF CINCINNATI - DAAP - SCHOOL OF INTERIOR DESIGN
STUDIO DESCRIPTION
The SITUATED LEARNING studio focused on the intersection of architecture and interior design with social and environment psychology. We utilized the design of a K-12 school in partnership with an organization in the Philippines as the case study for exploring that intersection.
This semester we worked with The Beacon School ( Manila, Philippines) to imagine the future of academic / learning environments - creating a place where students, teachers, staff, families, and the community can thrive. The 4001 studio challenged each student to research the “classroom” and current investigations into learning environments, engage with users and key stakeholders, design the future space, and collaborate with The Beacon School directly. As part of this international partnership, students utilized real-time rendering tools and other technology as part of the studio design process.
FINAL DESIGN REVIEW
The following 10-min presentations result from a semester deep dive into design processes, creative problem solving, research into the future of learning environments with design innovations to elevate space to its potential place as an integral part of the student’s learning journey. We explored an entire school through four critical areas for the final studio design project.
